2016 Cyclocross Scuffle

Sunday the 18th was one of the very first CX races of the season, the Cyclocross Scuffle in Elgin, Texas. It was an extremely hot day and a small turn-out, but still a very fun race! The course was relatively flat with no run ups, but a gravel start, another gravel pit about half way through, a short sandpit shortly after, and a few barriers.

Carrie Arnold represented Team IPA in both the Single Speed Open and the Women’s 3/4, placing 11th and 16th respectively. We’re looking forward to many more races this season!

Hanging out with Tri star Gertie Adair before the race!

At Team IPA, our kids train and compete too!

Gertie Kate Adair places 5th in Colin’s Hope Tri 2016

Gertie had a great race despite the oppressive heat and humidity that would rule the day.  This was her third time to participate in the Colin’s Hope Triathlon as an Athlete Ambassador.  She swims in honor of victims of drowning and near drowning incidents.  This year she recognized Maddy, Hadley, Tristan, Avery, Grace, and, of course, Colin.   As usual here swim was great despite being slowed by traffic.  T1 transition went well with no hiccups and new this year for her was the use of a road bike.  This resulted in an over 2 minute improvement for the bike leg.  We saw her come into T2 where she was nearly out before Dad could snap this pic!

It was hot for the run portion but Gertie finished strong and had a great time.  Next year she will be out of Junior class and will participate in the Senior group.
